After graduation Vandell married Ruth Christensen. They made their home in Dallas Center where Vandell worked for Eagle Iron Works and later John Deere as a welder. He had three daughters, Robbi Hagelberg of Minnesota, Jeanne Harbin of Texas and Nikki Haldeman of Adel. He had eight grandchildren.
Van’s second wife was Barb Lovell and they lived on a small acreage in Stuart, IA for a few years before his death in 1995. 
Vandell loved woodworking and restoring antique furniture. He was a self taught musician and loved playing guitar and Dobro.  He spent many weekends traveling to Bluegrass festivals and playing with a local band. 

Vandell died June 5, 1995

STUART—Jesse Vandell Lovell, 58, of Stuart, died June 5, 1995, of cancer at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. Services were held June 8 at the Dallas Center United Methodist Church in Dallas Center. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery in Dexter.

 

Mr. Lovell was born in Mount Moriah, Mo. on Sept. 6, 1936. He lived most of his life in Dallas Center, before moving to Waukee for the five years previous to Stuart. He served in theAir National Guard and was employed by Hy-line International Research Farm.

 

Mr. Lovell is survived by his wife, Barbara Lovell, three daughters, Robbi Hagelberg of Rosemount, Minn., Jeanne Elsbernd of Charles City and Nikki Haldeman of Dallas Center. He is also survived by two sisters, Arveta Mash of Dallas Center and Esther Weddle of Bethany, Mo. Three stepchildren and seven step grandchildren also survive him.

 

Mr. Lovell is preceded in death by his parents Jesse Edgar and Ada Beatrice Baker Lovell and his two brothers, Chester Lovell and Argyle Lovell.
