At the present time I am retired.  My wife and I live in Long Beach, California.  My hobbies are (or used to be) doing leaded glass projects and deep sea fishing.  Now we enjoy camping in our motor home with the RELAC (Retired Employees of Los Angeles County) Camping Club.

My wife (the former Janell Steffen of Waukee) and I have been married for forty six years.  We have one child, a son named Jeffrey.  Since he has never married we have no grandchildren, at least none that we know of.

After graduation I enlisted in the Army in November 1955.  After three years (most of the time in Germany).  I was discharged and married my wife in November 1958.  After the birth of our son in December 1959 and knocking around Des Moines for two and a half years, at a variety of jobs we moved to Long Beach, California in July 1961, where we have made our home since.  I worked at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard for a few years as a welder and then at the L. A. County Flood Control District (aka Public Works Department).  After spending 25 years with them I retired in March 1996.

My special recollection of high school was working and playing around with my friends at Russ Shield’s Garage in Dallas Center.
