I'm currently living at my home on a 660-acre lake at Lake Kiowa, Texas where I’ve been for 14 years.

Highest on my list of hobbies are reading, bridge, traveling, and dancing.  For the last four years most of my time has been spent creating and building our Red River Peach Orchard of 1,000 trees.  It’s a U-Pick peach orchard with 6 different varieties to choose from.  It was planned to be the perfect retirement business.  We spend about half the year working quite steady and then the other half of the year is open to traveling and other ventures.  We feel our Peach Orchard is a highly beneficial contribution to the community.

I was married to Bob Travis for 41 years and felt we had a very happy and good marriage. We have three children and eight grand children.  Our oldest daughter, Teresa Lynn, is now 48 years old.  She and her husband, Ken Robertson, have a son, Tom (21) and a daughter, Rose (19).  Tom married Bree last year and all three are in college at this time.  Our middle child is our son, Vincent Kendall (43).  He is married to Debbie and they have three boys who are Jason Kyle (18), Michael Vincent (15), and Gage Barrett (7).  Our youngest, Valerie Kay (41), has three girls.  They are Miki Renee (22), Jessi Marie (19), and Christi Lee (16).  Teresa and Ken are both taking a break from the Law Enforcement Profession.  Vince is a pilot with USAir Lines, and Val is a Dental Hygienist and Horse Trainer/Teacher.

Reminiscing back over the years since high school I’ve found I’ve had a very enjoyable, successful, and fulfilling life even though it’s had its ups and downs.  After my first year out of high school I chose to marry my high school sweetheart instead of my planned college route to become a Dental Hygienist.  I was in love and it wasn’t possible to do both.  I was never disappointed with my choice.  The intermitting 14 years of working outside the home was always in the dental profession, my second desire.  My husband’s career in the Air Force had us traveling to nine different locations.  We started out in Texas and ended up in Texas, having spent time in New Jersey, California, South Dakota, and Iowa.  They were new and exciting times and we made many wonderful friendships.  Air Force life was a good life.  After having 10 years of Air Force living we spent the next 29 years with Delta Airlines living in 4 different homes, but all in Texas.  I’m sad to say, but after 41 years our marriage ended and we went our separate ways.  About 4 years ago the idea of building a “U-Pick” peach orchard came to mind.  It is well on its way to becoming a vibrant part of our community.  People love picking their own peaches and what a joy it is to watch their faces as they come out of the orchard with their buckets full and peach juice running down their chins!  I’d say the most special events in my life were when I got married, when I had my 3 children and when my 8 grand children were born.  Then, last, but not least, when I did my sky dive in Sedona, Arizona in 2001.

My special recollection of DCHS had to do with basketball!!  That moment we won the Dallas County Girl’s Championship was a thrill I’ll always remember!  And, of course, special feelings were felt when I would hit that final shot that won a game.  One other warm feeling I’ll always have is for Mr. Williams!  While in the eighth grade he allowed me to play basketball with the high school team.  What a privilege that was!

Dallas Center High School was extra special to the Zimmerman Family because all 9 girls graduated from there.  It was the type of school that, as parents, you wished your own children and grand children could be a part of.  I felt, and still feel, extremely fortunate to have had the experience and privilege of being a DCHS graduate.
